Jade’s legs still wobbled, hours after that mind-blowing orgasm from Liem. If a dragon ever boasted of his sexual prowess, she’d definitely not doubt him.

After zipping up her black lace dress, she stuck her feet into too-high heels and tried not to topple over. The other couples had joined them for another short paddle, and then afternoon cocktails. Now, it was on to the dinner cruise.

Their packed routine wore her down, but better this than too much alone time with Liem. Even Ling had abandoned them. She’d sent Jade a quick text this afternoon and that was it. Naturally, her friend must have accompanied them for reasons other than the open bar.

Ling was always up to something or other. Jade hoped the “other” didn’t land her into too much trouble.

Advice I should follow. She squinted at her reflection, well, Song’s reflection in the full-length mirror.

“Ready?” A knock rapped on the doorframe.

She spun toward Liem, who stood decked out in a sexy dark gray suit and blue-striped tie. He looked gorgeously yummy, but they shouldn’t miss the ship. “Yes.”

He offered his hand and she accepted, slipping her fingers inside the crook of his arm. Inhaling, she moaned at his scent, dark and earthy with smoky notes. Her fire-breathing dragon. She smiled to herself as she strolled with him.

They escaped into the evening air, twinkling stars already peeking out. Liem led her onto the moderate-sized ship, which was decorated in a classic fashion, with elegant chandeliers and crisp white sheets draped over round tables. They chose an empty table by the window and Liem helped her to her seat.

He sank down opposite her, linking his fingers on the tabletop. “I hate that thing.” His piercing gray glare burned into her locket.

She fingered the cool metal. “Because I look like Song or because it reminds you of what you should be pursuing?”

He snorted. “Why does the Matchmaker get to make up the fucking rules anyways?”

“She doesn’t. She only helps orchestrate destiny. Soul mates are meant to be together, Liem.” She lowered her tone, murmuring, “I understand now why dragons don’t keep pets.”

He stiffened and shifted back. “Why is that?”

“A dog, a hamster. Even a human. We’re a tiny blip in your lifetimes.”

“Indeed?” He drew his thick brows together. “Humans aren’t so different.”

She straightened her spine. “What do you mean?”

“When you marry, you promise endless devotion, but the reality is, most couples are lucky to see thirty, forty, fifty years together. A tiny blip. Yet that doesn’t stop any of you.”

She nibbled her bottom lip. “Yeah, but that’s because we die.”

He cocked his head. “Do you? Your souls are eternal, yet your vows are somewhat…” he wavered his hand in the air, “temporary?”

“Good point.” She reclined in her seat, crossing her legs. “If Song walked in here right no—”

“I would tell her she’s too late.” He planted his hand atop hers, his eyes flashing in earnest. “I’ve found my tiny blip.”

Her chest tightened. Was Liem implying he cared for her? The possibility of being hurt by him slammed into her.
